Nathalie was born in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England, to a father who is of Saint Lucian as well as English descent, and a mother who is of Dominican of Dominican descent. Nathalie says that her mother was the first person to inspire her desire for a career as an actress. She played Young Nala in The West End Production of The Lion King when she was just 10 years old. In 2006, she earned her first television appearance in the role of Sasha Valentine in the teen soap-opera Hollyoaks (1995). Emmanuel made an appearance on the show from 2006 until 2010. The following year, she made her film debut in the thriller Twenty8. Then she was cast in the fantasy drama Game of Thrones (2011, HBO) in the role of Missandei Targaryen the Daenerys' translator. Her role in Game of Thrones was promoted to a regular in the year 2015. In 2015, she was a part-time actress as a computer hacker Ramsey and Harriet as well in Furious 7: The Scorch Trials (2015 action movie) as well as Maze Runner - The Scorch Trials (2015 sci-fi action film). FHM magazine ranked Emmanuel 99th on their list of the 100 Sexiest Women in 2013. In 2015, she appeared in the April issues of InStyle as well as GQ magazines.
